ANOTHER AMAZING TRUE STORY
ABOUT VPC’s CUSTOMER SERVICE
as told by Derek Volk
On
Tuesday, August 25 at 7:45pm I was out for dinner with my wife when my
cell rang. I looked down and noticed it was Frank Crossman. He usually
doesn’t call me after hours so I said, “I need to get this.” Frank told
me that one of our customers was about to run out of boxes and they needed
some more by midnight or they’d have to send everyone home. Luckily we
warehouse the boxes they needed so I told Frank I would head home to look
up in the system if we had any stock on the floor. The computer said we
did so both Frank and I headed to Biddeford. When I got there I started
walking around looking for them with no success. I called Barbie Poitras,
our Shipping Supervisor, at home. She walked me through the new bar
coding system which helped me find them immediately and easily. Once I
found them Frank and I started loading them into our cars. They needed
750 (3 pallets). I got just over 2 units in my SUV and Frank got the rest
in his car. Al Gore may hate my Expedition but it sure delivers boxes
well!! :-) We arrived in New Hampshire at 11:15pm with all the boxes
they needed to keep running all night. At 6:00am the next day Vladimir
unloaded the straight job, which was full and heading north, filled it
with another 3,000 boxes and sent them what they needed to keep running.
I got home at 1:00am pumped up and ready to wake up shortly for another
beautiful day to sell corrugated!!

KLUTZ of the QUARTER
WINNER - DEREK VOLK!
RECAP - Derek and
his daughter, Lilly, were at a softball tournament in Lowell, MA in
mid-May. After the games they went to the hotel swimming pool. Derek got
changed into his suit and put his keys in his sneaker. After cooling off
they headed up the elevator with their luggage, cooler and some equipment.
When they got to their floor and walked out of the elevator the sneaker fell
off the cooler and dropped right down the elevator shaft! Since the hotel
farms out the elevator service Derek’s son, Dylan, had to drive to Lowell
with a new car key.
From Derek: As much as I
tried to make Greg’s cell phone story sound a lot worse than it was, losing
my keys going down the elevator shaft won me the title of Klutz of the
Quarter. Thank you all for voting. For the record, the Tewksbury Holiday
Inn called me about a month later when they found my keys shocking everyone
(especially my loving wife) who didn’t believe I really dropped keys down an
elevator shaft but had simply lost them.

2009 Beach to Beacon – 10K Road Race
On August 1, 2009 my
daughter, Mandee, and I ran the Beach To Beacon 10k road race in Cape
Elizabeth, Maine. This was our third year running in the race. It was a
sunny, hot day and we had a great time as usual. Mandee ran an
impressive race finishing in 1:10:07, a pace of 11:18 per mile. Mandee
did very well considering she was unable to train 5 to 6 weeks prior to
the race due to illness. I am very proud of my daughter for
participating and finishing the race. My finishing time was 48:17, a
pace of 7:47 per mile. I placed 1,113 out of 5,628 runners and was 115
out of 389 in my age group (which I will not reveal).
Mandee and I would like to
thank Volk Packaging Corporation for sponsoring us this year. We really
appreciate the support and for supplying T-shirts for the race. The
beneficiary for this year’s race was “Maine Handicapped Skiing.” We
look forward to next years race and hope to form an official Volk
Packaging Corporation Race Team.
